60 years ORDER : Dominican Sisters of Springfield CURRENT ASSIGNMENT : Justice Office, Do- minican Sisters of Springfield ADDRESS : 1237 W. Monroe St., Springfield, IL 62704 PROFESSION OF VOWS: Jan. 4, 1961 MINISTRIES : Sister Marcel- line taught at Catholic schools around Illinois, including St. Mary School in East Moline from 1970 to 1972. In addition to educa- tion, she served as the founding director of Project IRENE, advocating in the Illinois General Assembly for the needs of women and children; as a member of the General Council of the Dominican Sisters of Springfield; volunteered with the Dominican Leadership office at the United Nations; and was Dominican National Co-Promoter of Justice for North America. She has been in her current position since 2010. CELEBRATION PLANS : A private celebration with her Dominican Sisters is planned for July 25. COMMENTS : "I love my vocation and my life," Sister Marcelline said. "It connects me to something greater than myself - not just something but Someone greater than my- self. It connects me to people in a way that I probably wouldn't have been if I weren't a consecrated religious. "And it certainly connects me with God in a way that fits who I am and who I am called to be," she added. She finds it satisfying to know that she is helping others and doing God's work with them. "It gives me joy to share knowledge with others, engage with others about justice that is intrinsic to the Gospel and to hear how others engage that same Gospel," Sister Marcelline ex- plained. "It gives me joy to be in community and to be connected with my sisters and to know that together we are about the Mission of God." She advised those who are discerning a vocation to consecrated life to give them- selves space to be quiet and to pray. "Pay attention to what your heart is leading you to. Seek mentors or others to talk it over with," she said. "Yes, talk it over with God and also with others; God speaks through them." Sister Marcelline also asked discerners to think of Jesus' words to the disciples in the Res- urrection appearances: "Don't be afraid." "Let your YES be bold and courageous," she said.

COMMENTS : "I gave God a chance and God was there all along the way, personally and through the myriads of people who were and are in my life. I would not have been an educator and a caregiver if I had not entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet - two wonderful ministries," Sister Ann said of her vocation. Many things have brought her joy over the last 60 years, including the Sisters and as- sociates in her religious community, as well as the Sisters in many other communities with whom she has shared life, the people in the parishes in which she has been blessed to minister, and her small family. "Ministering to others is the key, so per- haps see what the needs of people are, then look at your own gifts," Sister Ann advised people who are discerning a vocation to consecrated life. "Contact communities whose charism seems to be a fit with you, discern with others, and then let go - let God."
