I am convinced that a vocation is a gift from God, and like any gift it can be rejected or accepted," Sister Catherine explained. "The example of my parents, nine siblings, teachers, friends and those to whom I ministered nurtured God's call which I heard deep in my heart at the age of 7. It is a call of faith, hope and love like every other call. . . . I had only to say, 'YES.'" She said she is grateful to the faith-filled students, parishioners, directees, and friends who have helped nourish God's call over the years. "It is you who have served me for 70 years. To all of you, I am very grateful," Sister Cath- erine said.

Rosalia served as orthopedic supervisor (1958-60) and staffnurse (1969-70) at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, and night supervisor at St. James Hospital in Pontiac (1960-61). She worked in the missions in Ecuador (1970-76) and when she returned she was named superior at the Motherhouse in East Peoria (1977-86). Following that, she ministered as a recovery room nurse at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington (1986- 89), nurse in the ambulatory surgery center at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford (1989-2008), and sacristan at St. Anthony Con- vent, Rockford, (2008-13). CELEBRATION PLANS : Sister M. Rosalia was honored at a celebration with her Franciscan community on May 17.

In the Diocese of Peoria, she taught at St. Mary's Academy in Nauvoo (1951-52), St. Anthony in Atkinson (1952-53), St. John in Clinton (1953-56), Immacu- late Conception in Monmouth (1960-61), St. Mary in Wenona (1961-62), Holy Family in Peoria (1965-69), St. Mary in Moline (1969-73), and Alle- man High School in Rock Island (1973-78). Chaplaincy took her to Methodist Hospital in Peoria (1979-87), Franciscan Medical Center in Rock Island (1988-93), Catholic So- cial Service in Peoria (1993-94), Hospice of Illinois Valley Commu- nity Hospital in Peru (1995-2000), and St. Augustine Manor in Peoria (2000-02). CELEBRATION PLANS : Sister Catherine celebrated with her community in March. COMMENTS : Taught by Benedictine Sisters at St. Mary School in Moline, Sister Catherine said, "Their virtues of honesty, caring, loving and fairness and their prayer life helped lead me to our Benedictine community, hoping that I might come to be like them." Of special influence were Sister Mary Joseph Sepesy and Sister Mary Bernard Sharkey. As for the future, she has "a lot of hope" that the Benedictines will continue to serve God in special ministries while being faithful to God's call to "Come, follow me." "Our communities may be smaller, but we will have the continued support of Oblates," Sister Catherine said.

Her ministry also took her to Austria and Taiwan. Spanish studies in Texas and Mexico helped her to establish Providence in the Desert, where she taught English to immigrants near the Salton Sea in California and music to the children.
