SUNDAY, MAY 22, 2022 with physical struggles dealing with vi- sion issues, said Father Henehan, and Wille transferred dioceses (from Chicago to Peoria) and thus changed seminaries while in formation. Their ability to adapt and change, while trusting in our Lord, will prove them well in their service to the church and is edifying for me personally, said Father Henehan of all four candidates.
EXCITED, GRATEFUL
Both excited and grateful as their diaconate ordination approaches, the seminarians also asked for prayers. Please pray that I may always be open to the grace of the Holy Spirit to act as a willing instrument of Gods love and mercy, said Wille. Hopper told The Catholic Post that each diaconate candidate was invited to choose ive saints personally important to us for inclusion in a litany chanted during the Rite of Ordination. Hopper selected St. Philip Neri, St. John Paul II, St. Maximilian Kolbe, St. Maria Faustina, and St. John Bosco. While acknowledging the growth still needed before his priestly ordination in 2023, Hopper said I am excited beyond words at the chance to begin ministry in the church by preaching the word of God and baptizing people into the family of the church. Crdenas Morn said that while his parents cannot attend the ordination Mass, they will watch the livestream from Mexico. I know they are proud of me and that their prayers will be with me during this impor- tant day, he told The Catholic Post. The seminarians, who anticipate ordi- nation to the priesthood in 2023 after a inal year of seminary preparation, were expected to learn their summer assign- ments later this week. sion to imagine that they were entrusting everyone at Peoria Notre Dame - stu- dents, staff, faculty, and families past, present and future - to Marys interces- sion as they circled the school. We are opening for her just a little home, her little area of the school, so she can manifest her maternal love to each one of us here, she said of the Fountain of Grace Grotto they would find at the end of the procession.
GOD PROVIDES
Planning for the grotto started two years ago under the inspiration and guidance of Sister Sara. Cindy Dermody, director of advancement, reached out to people to see if they would support the project. A positive response came in the form of donations and prayers, including 100 rosaries and 1,000 Memorares over 100 days, Sister Sara said. Even when Sister Sara was tempted to doubt the expenditure for the grotto because the school is in need of improve- ments, the Lord assisted as if to say, Put me first. Give my mother her place in your school and I will provide everything else you need. On a very practical level, we are going to do more in the building this summer than we anticipated being able to in the fall, Sister Sara said. In addition to the donors, who paid for everything, Sister Sara thanked project manager Greg Cicciarelli, stone mason Craig Kijanowski, and Dave Rudolph and Doug Simmons for donating their time to gettheconcretepoured.Duetodicult spring weather that did not cooperate with construction, the concrete was sealed the night before the May 8 celebration. She also recognized Cindy Dermody for her work. The prayer of consecration was writ- ten by Mother Adela Galindo, foundress of the Servants of the Pierced Hearts of Jesus and Mary. The day included praise for Fulton Sheen. The 100 days of prayer that started on Feb. 11, the feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes, end- ed on May 8, his birthday. On hand for the celebration were Dolores Sheen, his niece, and Paul Cunningham, his great-nephew. The grotto bears a sign with one of his quotes: The Blessed Mother understands our cries and worries and knows them better than we know ourselves.
